Lifeguards on the Lookout for Danger

Lifeguards have one of the most important jobs in the world, while many people are having fun doing different activities, lifeguards are on the lookout for dangerous situations and are always ready to rescue people in those situations.
Here are some of the successful lifeguard rescues in recent times.

Good Samaritan boat and lifeguard rescue passengers on a burning boat
The fire that broke out on the 57 ft. cabin cruiser Footloose boat did not result in any lost lives, thanks to the Good Samaritan boat “Salty Dreams” and a lifeguard rescue boat that took passengers aboard from the burning boat. Black smoke was reported on board below deck to the US Coast Guard, with lifeguard boat and air units responding to rescue. The fire was eventually extinguished, as the lifeguard rescue boat hooked and towed cruiser to San Diego Bay where it was turned over to vessel assist.


20-year old lifeguard honored for saving 5-year oldChilson Center Lazy River
Jourdon Mazur is a 20-year old lifeguard who saved the life of a 5-year old boy by giving him emergency CPR after alerting authorities by calling 911. Thanks to his efforts the boy began to regain consciousness just as the authorities arrived on the scene. This gave the 5-year old boy the chance to celebrate his sixth birthday at the Chilson Center. Honored by Loveland Fire Chief Mark Miller, Jourdon Mazur stated that the adrenaline kicked in and he just followed his training after the boy, who was floating face-down near the Lazy River was pulled by someone from the water and subsequently laid on the floor at the edge of the pool.

Unmanned aircraft system (UAS) makes an unprecedented rescue
“Little Ripper” is an unmanned aircraft system popularly known as a drone and it recently did the first of its kind rescue after saving two distressed swimmers off the coast of Lennox Head, in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. Lifeguards received an alert of two swimmers in trouble off of Lennox Head, just a day after a media demonstration of the various capabilities of a drone was done.The rescue also confirms the capabilities of the drone, while allaying the fears of many across the globe.lennox-head

Lifeguard returns home after nearly starving to death in the Atlantic Ocean
Samuel Leroy is a 23-year old lifeguard that recently returned home after being stranded in the Atlantic Ocean for more than 2 weeks. He ran out of fuel due to an engine malfunction while on his way back to the Islands from South Florida, USA and he had to live off crisps, cookies, and water for 10 days, after which he had nothing but water to live off. Just when the thought of death started to cross his mind, he was spotted by another boater who contacted the U.S. Coast Guard. He was then transported to St.Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he stayed for three days before flying back to the Bahamas.
